Climate and weather in Egypt

Climate and weather in Egypt

Egypt it lies within the North African dry zone, with very little rainfall and significant seasonal and daily temperature fluctuations. You could say, that there are two seasons in Egypt, including both dry: mild winter from November to April and hot summer from May to October. One thing is for sure: Egyptian weather does not require an umbrella.

Only the northern coastal strip and the Nile Delta are influenced by the Mediterranean climate with winter rainfall 100-200 mm; it rains extremely rarely south of Cairo. The average maximum daily temperature in January is 20 ° C (Cairo, Port Said) do 24°C (Aswan), cooling down considerably during the night. In July, daytime temperatures reach 31 ° C in Port Said, 35° C in Cairo and 41 ° C in Aswan. Due to the relatively low air humidity, approx. 30%, the heat is not too bothersome. The hot chamsin wind blows from March to June, carrying sand and dust from the south. On the Red Sea coast (Hurghada i Sharm el Sheikh) the climate is slightly milder, with less hot summers (ok. 35°C) and mild winters, when the temperature rarely drops below 10 ° C even at night.

The Nile, flowing along the entire length of the country, is of particular importance for Egypt. If it wasn't for this river, an extremely dry climate would make, that Egypt would be virtually uninhabited. Beyond the banks of the Nile, where agricultural crops are possible, the land area is predominantly desert.

The weather in Egypt is definitely sunny all year round, the sun shines an average of eight hours a day. Already in antiquity it was considered, that Egypt, thanks to its hot climate, has great therapeutic importance. Herodotus wrote, that the good health and strength of the Egyptians come from the constantly shining sun.

Treatment of a huge area of Egypt (over a million square kilometers), climatically homogeneous would be an oversimplification. For regional climate differentiation, and therefore the weather in Egypt, it is affected by the long coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Nile and its delta, ubiquitous desert, and also - locally - the mountains of the Sinai Peninsula.

I don't think you need to convince anyone, that the key element of any successful holiday is good weather. After all, most Polish tourists travel in search of the sun. Egypt is actually a guarantee of high temperatures and no rainfall. Too intense sun rather than rain streams will encourage us to seek shelter in a hotel. Fortunately, it is not difficult to find a comfortable one overnight stay in Egypt, where we will find not only a moment of respite from the heat, but also a lot of attractions. Internet hotel search engines come to the rescue of all those who choose to travel to Egypt.

  • July - The sun works tirelessly through 12 hours. The water and air temperatures are the same - still someone says, that you can cool down in the sea?
  • August – It is admittedly 40 ° C in Sharm el Sheikh, but a refreshing breeze blows. You can bear it.
  • September - In the oasis of Charga, the temperature has dropped to 39 ° C; perhaps for some time 15 it will also rain for years.
  • October - The temperature on the Nile is below 30 ° C - just like our summer.
  • November - In Cairo 24 ° C. Pleasant temperature, and the weather in November – kind of different – sunny.
  • December - On the Sinai Peninsula again 22 ° C, the same, what in the red sea. And the sun again - but finally, as Herodotus says, it is the source of health and vigor of the Egyptians. Just a question: whether it also applies to visitors?
